  • Abdulmajid Danbilki Kwamanda, a prominent politician in Kano, has been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged threats to incite public unrest
  • The arrest followed the circulation of a video featuring Kwamanda’s controversial interview, where he claimed plans to reinstate the deposed Emir of Kano

The Department of State Services (DSS) has taken into custody Abdulmajid Danbilki Kwamanda, a prominent politician in Kano, over alleged threats to incite the public to instigate unrest and make the state ungovernable.

A senior official from the DSS in Kano, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed that Kwamanda, known for his outspoken views on local radio, was arrested following the circulation of a video featuring one of his recent interviews. The video caught the attention of security agencies.

After the arrest, Kwamanda was handed over to the police and subsequently charged in a Magistrate Court in the state, leading to an order for his remand in a correctional facility.

The controversial politician, in the contentious interview, claimed that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), had devised plans to reinstate Muhammadu Sanusi, the deposed 14th Emir of Kano.

In the shared video, Kwamanda expressed his intention to mobilize the masses to take to the streets of Kano, initiating an uprising of such magnitude that it would compel the federal government to declare a state of emergency in the state.

Since the Supreme Court upheld the election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kwamanda had been vocal in his dissatisfaction, criticizing the judgment and blaming President Bola Tinubu for the APC’s alleged failure to retain control of the state.

He also joined others in condemning the recent decisions by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to relocate staff to Lagos, alleging these moves were part of a plan by the Tinubu-led administration to undermine the northern part of the country.
