  • The kidnap victims included two students, three women and four men.

At least nine persons were kidnapped when gunmen ambushed travellers in Kogi State over the weekend.

The incident happened in Oshokoshoko, along the Kabba/Obajana/Lokoja Road last Saturday between 4pm and 5pm.

The kidnap victims included two students, three women and four men.

It was gathered that the victims took off from the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, Kabba and headed for Lokoja.

Elupo Eliazer, a person with disability, whose wife is among the victims, confirmed the incident.

He disclosed that the kidnappers have called to demand N30m but later reduced it to N2.6m after negotiation.

“My wife and I were travelling to attend our church convention scheduled for Lokoja, but I decided to follow a different vehicle as the Toyota could not contain all of us, else I would have been in the car with her,” he explained.

He said that the vehicle his wife was travelling in was ahead of the one he was in but all the occupants of the vehicle had been led into the bush by the time his vehicle got to the spot

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, has not issued a statement on the incident.
