Dr. Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa, the Emir of Fika and Chairman Council of Chiefs in Yobe State, has described drug abuse as a tool fueling security challenges in the state.

The emir made this assertion while hosting and organizing a reception for journalists in his palace in Potiskum LGA.

He pointed out that the recent attack on the Gurjaje community in Fika LGA of the state, which resulted in the killing of one person and the destruction of over 100 houses, has confirmed a connection between drug abuse and the attack.

According to him, 60 percent of the people in the affected areas are youths.

The Emir urged the state government and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to develop strategic plans to curtail the use of illicit drugs.

He also called on the government to provide development in the affected areas, noting that the country has a significant level of economic hardship.
