  • Benue State government plans to establish a power plant to enhance socio-economic growth, following federal approval for state autonomy
  • Raymond Asemakaha, MD of Benue Investment and Property Company, advocates for state-owned power generation infrastructure to stimulate economic activities

The Benue State government plans to establish a power plant to enhance socio-economic growth. This initiative stems from the recent approval by the Federal Government, which granted state authorities the autonomy to operate and oversee their electricity utilities.

Raymond Asemakaha, the Managing Director of Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC), unveiled this development during a meeting with Remedy Earth representatives at the BIPC headquarters in Makurdi. Asemakaha urged the electricity firm to initiate a trial power station in the state.

Asemakaha emphasized the necessity for state-owned power generation infrastructure to invigorate economic activities and uplift communities.

He remarked, “Economic vitality hinges on sufficient power supply. Thus, we are exploring avenues to ensure autonomous electricity generation and distribution across the state.”

“We advocate for establishing the plant within our domain for a test phase. We prioritize tangible demonstrations over mere promises,” he added.

The Remedy Earth delegation, headed by Peace Obichere, affirmed their commitment to implementing the pilot project for BIPC within nine months. Obichere assured us of the availability of skilled manpower and technical expertise required for successful project execution.

“We pledge to mobilize our resources to actualize the envisioned power plant,” Obichere stated confidently.
