One Akeem Adeniyi was on Monday arraigned before a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for killing three persons.

He allegedly drove recklessly and reportedly caused the death of the three people,

The Lagos State Government charged him with four counts bordering on manslaughter, reckless/dangerous driving, and causing of death.

According to the state prosecuting counsel, Titilayo Olarewaju-Daud, the defendant committed the offences on February 8, 2019 at about 6.30pm at Akindele Street in the Amukoko area of the state.

Olarewaju-Daud told the court that Adeniyi drove a Lexus Jeep with number plate KRD 589FF, in a reckless manner and caused the death of one 57-year-old woman, Mary Akinfenwa.

She also told the court that the defendant on the same day, at the same time and in the same place, killed one Princewill Ideye, aged eight months.

Adeniyi was also accused of killing an unknown person when he drove recklessly with the vehicle.

The prosecutor stated that the offences committed contravened Sections 51 and 52 of the road transport sector law of Lagos State 2018.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The defendant’s counsel, Mr. Lekan Egberungbe, told the court that he had applied for the defendant’s bail.

Consequently, the judge adjourned the matter till April 30, 2024, to hear the bail application.

On Monday, an armed robber, Adamu Francis, was convicted and sentenced to 38 years imprisonment for robbing a lady, Ajoke Illiasu.

The robber took possession of the victim’s necklace, wristwatch, bank ATM cards, cash sum of N50,000, and stripped her naked while armed with a gun and iron rod
