Three arrested for raping 12-year-old girl in Imo

  • The victim was infected with a sexually transmitted disease and also suffered serious injuries in her private part.

Three suspects have been apprehended for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl, the police in Imo state have said.

The arrested suspects are Joseph Onyema, 35, Uzoma Nwanoreze, 30, and Eberechukwu Nwosu, 43.

They were arrested following a painstaking and thorough investigations, the police in the south east state disclosed in a statement by their Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye.

According to the statement released on Monday, the victim was infected with a sexually transmitted disease and also suffered serious injuries in her private part.

The statement reads: “Investigation revealed that the suspects had unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor on different occasions, which made her develop serious vaginal injuries as well as a sexually transmitted disease.

“The victim is currently receiving intense medical care at the hospital. The suspects will have their day in court upon completion of a discreet investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Aboki Danjuma, while condemning the barbaric acts in totality, calls on well-meaning residents of Imo State to support the Police in the onslaught against defilement, rape, and other sexual-related crimes in the State. ”

He affirmed that such a societal menace was utterly condemnable and perpetrators will be brought to book.
