Cultists gun down vigilante member in Rivers

  • His death has cast a dark and ominous cloud of despair and uncertainty on the beleaguered area as residents are consumed by apprehension and fear.

One Uche Orukwo has been shot dead at Obidanso Waterfront, Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Orukwo, a member of Diobu Vigilante Group, DVG, was killed on Saturday night by gunmen, suspected to cultists.

The deceased met his end during a raid by security operatives, which he was part of, on the waterfront in search of cultists terrorising the area.

His death has cast a dark and ominous cloud of despair and uncertainty on the beleaguered area as residents are consumed by apprehension and fear.

The security team, which was acting on information, had stormed the waterfront about 9p.m., on Saturday, where suspected cultists were preparing to launch an attack on a rival group in an ongoing supremacy battle.

It was learned that the cultists on sighting the security operatives, opened fire and gunned down the vigilante member, Orukwo.

Meantime, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the killing of Orukwo, adding that investigation was ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators
