Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has voiced his apprehension regarding the recent surge in kidnapping incidents across the state.

During an emergency security council meeting convened in Lafia on Monday, Governor Sule highlighted the pressing need to address the escalating security challenges related to kidnapping and other emerging threats.

“The purpose of this meeting is to assess the prevailing security situation, especially in light of recent developments during my absence for lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia,” Governor Sule explained.

He expressed deep concern and noted the alarming increase in kidnapping cases, particularly in Keffi, Doma, Lafia, Awe, Obi, Keana, Karu, and Nasarawa Local Government Areas.

“In addition to kidnappings, there has been a surge in militia activities, causing distress among innocent civilians, notably in areas surrounding Shegye, Katakpa, and various villages within Toto Local Government Area,” Governor Sule remarked.

Highlighting another concerning trend, he mentioned the escalation of disputes, including recent conflicts within communities, such as the incident in the Udege area, resulting in a fatality due to intra-ethnic misunderstanding.

Governor Sule underscored the state government’s firm stance against the formation of ethnic-based vigilante groups, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective efforts in addressing security challenges.

Expressing gratitude, Governor Sule commended the diligent efforts of security agencies in tackling the security threats, preventing further escalation of the situation.
