FCTA to upgrade three hospitals in FCT

The Federal Capital Territory Health Services and Environment Secretariat has announced plans to upgrade three hospitals in Abuja.

Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary, emphasized the administration’s determination to enhance healthcare infrastructure during the unveiling of these plans.

According to a press statement by Badaru Yakasai, Assistant Director of Information at HSES, Fasawe disclosed this during an assessment tour of Maitama and Asokoro district hospitals by a delegation from the African Union Commission.

Dr. Baba-Gana Adam, Permanent Secretary of FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, represented the Mandate Secretary during this announcement. He also mentioned that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, recently announced the FCTA’s intention to upgrade several hospitals in the territory.

“The FCT Administration has placed health as a top priority to the renewed hope agenda of the President Bola Tinubu’s administration, and as such, three hospitals in FCT will get a facelift to meet up standard, these hospitals are Gwagwalada, Utako, and Gwarinpa General hospitals,” she noted.

The Acting Head, Medical Laboratory, African Union Commission, who is also the leader of the delegation, Kalifa Manneh said the purpose of the visit is to conduct an assessment of medical and health services in Maitama and Asokoro district hospitals.

She revealed that the commission sent an 18-member delegation to assess FCT readiness to host the African Humanitarian Department.

In her welcome address, the Medical Director, Maitama District Hospital, Dr Rita Idemudia, noted that the hospital is determined to provide affordable and accessible health services using modern and appropriate technology.
