Police arrest eight suspected kidnappers, rescue four kidnapped victims in Delta

The squad, led by ASP Julius Robinson, apprehended six suspected kidnappers and recovered a cache of weapons

A specialized police unit, dispatched by Delta State’s Commissioner of Police, Olufeni Abaniwonda, to intensify the battle against criminal activity, has successfully infiltrated and dismantled suspected kidnapper hideouts in Sapele and Ughelli.

According to a statement issued by the Delta State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, on Friday in Warri, the squad, led by ASP Julius Robinson, apprehended six suspected kidnappers and recovered a cache of weapons, including firearms and a locally made gun. Additionally, they rescued three victims who had been held captive.

“On April 17, 2024, at about 2330hrs, while working on the credible intelligence received about a syndicate of armed robbers terrorising Ughelli and its environs, ASP Julius Robinson led his team, in a sting operation, stormed Sapele Town and arrested the leader of one of the suspected syndicate known as Ibrahim Usman, a 35 years old male indigene of Abaji Town, Kogi State”

The statement explained that the following day, “at about 0530hours, the suspect led the operatives to Itsekiri Road area of Sapele town, where two of his gang members, Joseph Aondohbmba (22), of Gbeji community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State and Collins Ovo, alias Gbegbes (23), male suspect from Adeji community in Okpe LGA, Delta State were nabbed. ”

While noting that an investigation is ongoing in the matter, the police statement further noted that on April 24, 2024, the team led by ASP Julius Robinson again stormed the Ogorode Area of Sapele town, at about 0730hours and arrested one Daniel Okete (32), a native of Jesse community in Ethiope-West LGA, but resides in Sapele.

Upon search, a Barretta pistol was recovered in Okete’s residence which he confessed that he bought from one Goodluck Sokutu, presently in custody.

Okete, upon further interrogation, confessed to being the third in command of ‘Eiye Confraternity’ in Sapele town.
