A fatal road accident in Osun State has claimed the lives of a mother, her two children and one other person.

The accident happened in Ode-Omu town, Ayedaade local government area of the state around 6 am on Saturday.

The victims were travelling to Oogi, a neighbouring community, when they met their hand.

The victims, including the rider, were on a motorcycle when a car heading towards Ibadan from the Osogbo end of the road crashed into them.

The vehicle, which was coming from the opposite direction, lost control around Obada market and rammed into the motorcycle carrying victims, who were said to be returning from a vigil.

The vehicle involved was said to be conveying students of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.

Infuriated by the death of the victims, an irate mob descended on the occupants of the vehicle and seized two of them while one escaped from the scene.

A local, who identified himself as Fatai, said the car involved was travelling at top speed when it hit the victims.

Meanwhile, the Dean of Students Affairs at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Tope Abiola, calling for calm, revealed that the occupants attacked by the angry mob were students of the institution.

The Osun State Police Command has also confirmed the incident.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, said, “The vehicle suddenly ran into a bump and lost control.

“It hit a motorcycle and four people it conveyed reportedly died. The accident involved a car and motorcycle in Obada road, Odeomu.

“The burnt vehicle’s registration number is BDG 481JD (Lagos). The driver escaped immediately when the accident happened.

“After much appealing to the angry mob, they set ablaze the remaining two occupants of the vehicle.

“The police were able to quench the fire, rescue the occupants and transfer them to hospital in Osogbo. Normalcy has returned to the area.”
