  • APC lawmakers pledged allegiance to Emir Aminu Ado Bayero amid the emirship dispute in Kano, visiting him at Nassarawa Palace
  • Efforts to mediate the dispute have failed, with both Emirs, Sanusi and Ado Bayero, resisting court orders to vacate the palace

As the emirship dispute continues in Kano State, 12 All Progressives Congress (APC) members in the House of Assembly have pledged their allegiance to the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero. Led by Minority Leader Labaran Abdul Madari, the APC lawmakers visited Ado Bayero at the Nassarawa Palace after their plenary session on Tuesday.

This pledge comes amid a crisis following Muhammadu Sanusi II’s reinstatement as the 16th Emir of Kano. Governor Abba Yusuf recently repealed the five-emirates council, leading to Sanusi’s return. Sanusi and Ado Bayero have resisted various court orders demanding they vacate the palace, causing increased tension in the city.

Efforts by various organizations, including the police, religious leaders, notable figures, lawyers, and politicians, to mediate the situation have not succeeded. Despite these tensions, the APC lawmakers reaffirmed their support for Ado Bayero.

On the same day, the Kantin Kwari Market Traders Association also visited Sanusi to show their loyalty. Led by the state’s Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, the delegation visited the emir’s palace at Kofar Kudu. Sanusi encouraged the traders to maintain honesty and fairness in their business dealings, highlighting Kano’s role as a major commercial hub that attracts international merchants.

Since Sunday, Sanusi has received visitors, including 40 district heads and title holders who have pledged their allegiance. Vigilante groups and local hunters (Yan Tauri) continue to guard the palace, with five DSS operatives seen securing an entrance to one of the emir’s offices at Gidan Rumfa.

The situation remains tense as the city waits to resolve the emirship conflict.
