  • Former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose clarified his support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji, affirming his readiness to oppose him during elections
  • Fayose, a PDP member, faced criticism for alleged alignment with APC and benefiting from appointments under Governor Oyebanji’s administration

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose stated that his support for the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, stems from their mutual respect, clarifying that he would oppose Oyebanji without hesitation during the election period.

Fayose, a prominent member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has faced criticism for allegedly aligning with and benefiting from Governor Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) appointments.

Addressing his supporters in Ado-Ekiti ahead of the PDP ward congress next month, Fayose urged those spreading rumours about his appointment from Oyebanji to cease engaging in divisive politics. He emphasized that the PDP and APC have a stake in the state.

“I feel satisfied with Governor Oyebanji’s work so far in the state.

“Governor Oyebanji is a humble governor. Thirteen times, he has visited me in Lagos to greet me. We discussed the progress and development of the state. I have to respect him, which has nothing to do with politics; he is the only governor who has brought all governors in the state together.

“When it is time for the election, we will confront him. We supported Asiwaju in the last presidential election because he is a Yoruba man, and it’s time for our presidency. I am not looking for a position. If you say Fayose does not matter, wait; during the election, you will see,” he added.

Dispelling rumours of defection to the APC, Fayose affirmed his allegiance to the PDP, emphasizing his readiness to contest against Governor Oyebanji during the election. He called for PDP members to unite to ensure the party’s success in Ekiti.
