Three Indian nationals abducted by kidnappers in Ogun State have regained their freedom.

They were rescued alongside a Nigerian who was abducted with them by the police on Wednesday.

The victims were kidnapped on Sunday night after they were ambushed by the criminals while they were travelling along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway.

A driver was also shot during the incident which occured near Delabo Junction along the highway.

Addressing newsmen at the state headquarters at Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu, said the anti-kidnapping squad of the command traced the hoodlums into a bush where they were engaged in gun battle.

“Through a covert operation, the suspects were located in a bush where they were hiding. Upon noticing the police officers’ flashlight, they engaged in a gun battle with the law enforcement team.

“The Anti-kidnapping squad’s superior firepower led to the elimination of two suspects, while the remaining criminals escaped with injuries, leaving behind their weapons.

“The victims, later identified as one Nigerian and three Indian nationals, were safely rescued unharmed and reunited with their families,” he said.

Alamutu said 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 5 AK 47K rifles, eight AK 47 magazines and two cell phones were recovered from the suspects.
