  • Approximately 2,000 individuals have been displaced by flooding in Gada and Dange-Shuni LGAs of Sokoto State, affecting many homes
  • The flood has submerged around 600 hectares of farmland in Gada LGA, resulting in significant losses of livestock and foodstuffs

Approximately 2,000 individuals have been displaced by a flood that struck multiple communities in the Gada and Dange-Shuni Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Sokoto State. Mustapha Umar, the director of Relief and Rehabilitation at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), reported that many houses and farmlands in these areas were submerged.

About 1,700 people have been affected in Gada LGA alone, with around 600 hectares of farmland inundated. Numerous farm animals and significant quantities of foodstuffs have also been lost. The communities affected in Gada LGA include Dantudu, Balakozo, Gidan-Tudu, and Tsitse.

Umar noted that the situation in Dange-Shuni is being assessed to determine the number of residents affected and the extent of the damage.

In response to the disaster, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the leader of the state APC and the representative for Sokoto North, expressed his sympathy for the victims. A statement from his media aide, Bashar Abubakar, conveyed Wamakko’s prayers for the Almighty Allah to bring relief to those affected.
