  • The statement said preliminary investigations showed that the culprit had never served or worked with the military before his arrest.
  • It added that the suspect had obtained a pair of camouflage trousers from his friend, who is serving military personnel.

The police command in Bauchi has said that its operatives have arrested Aminu Mohammed, a 30-year-old man, for allegedly impersonating a soldier.

The suspect also defrauded his victim of N210,000.

This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday, issued by Ahmed Wakil, Bauchi police spokesperson and made available to WITHIN NIGERIA.

The police spokesperson said Muhammad was arrested after scamming his victim by falsely offering to help them get a job in the Nigerian Army.

Wakil said the suspects was apprehended in Monday at Magaji quarters by the operatives of Tafawa Balewa housing estate divisional police headquarters (c) division in Bauchi.

“The arrest was made on July 22, 2024, after a complaint was filed against him. Aminu Muhammad collected the sum of two hundred and ten thousand naira (N210,000.00) from an unsuspecting individual under the false representation of assisting in securing a job with the Nigerian Army,” the statement reads.

” Furthermore, the suspect deceitfully directed his victim to meet his friend (who is currently at large) to facilitate his entry into the military training school in Zaria.

“However, after spending eight days in Zaria, the victim could not meet the individual who was supposed to take him to the training school.”

The spokesperson said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had no prior military experience or affiliation, adding that he had acquired a pair of camouflage trousers from a friend who is a serving military personnel, likely to aid in his deception.

Wakil said Auwal Musa, commissioner of police (CP) in Bauchi, has directed the case to be transferred to the state criminal investigation department for a thorough and discreet probe.
