The Katsina State Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly aiding banditry.

In a statement on Thursday, police spokesperson Abubakar Aliyu announced that the arrests occurred during a routine patrol on July 25, in collaboration with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and local hunters in Jibia Local Government Area (LGA).

Aliyu stated, “In a sustained effort by the Katsina state police command, under the able leadership of CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, psc+, in the fight against armed banditry, we have succeeded in arresting two suspects for aiding and abetting banditry and recovering suspected rustled animals.”

The suspects, Abubakar Yahaya (35) and Muhammadu Ayatullahi (25), both from Zandam village in Jibia LGA, were apprehended near Magama cemetery. The police recovered two rams, one sheep, and a goat, suspected to be rustled from the suspects.

During the investigation, the suspects confessed to receiving the animals from a known bandit leader, Nura, from Mazanya village, who is currently at large. They admitted to repeatedly receiving and disposing of rustled animals for the bandit kingpin.

The police command is intensifying efforts to capture the suspects who are still at large.
