  • Eno questioned the need for protests in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called on youths to ensure peace during the planned nationwide hunger protest, warning against allowing miscreants and hoodlums to hijack the demonstrations.

Addressing key stakeholders on Tuesday, Eno emphasized the state’s longstanding peace and his administration’s commitment to improving residents’ welfare.

Eno questioned the need for protests in Akwa Ibom, citing extensive efforts to support the populace, including the payment of over N22 billion in gratuities to retired civil servants and a N50,000 stipend to the elderly through the ARISE Elderly Care Initiative. He highlighted the state’s free voucher program, benefiting 314,422 families, and social transfers aiding over 200,000 vulnerable individuals.

The governor also mentioned measures to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal, such as a three-month wage award and a 13th-month salary bonus. Additionally, Eno noted the approval of 2023 promotions, increased pensions for pre-2012 retirees, and the release of outstanding contributory pension funds.
