  • Senator Babangida Hussaini expressed concern that the nationwide protests over hunger have been taken over by looters and vandals in Jigawa State
  • He condemned the undemocratic actions of those who have turned the protests into opportunities for looting and vandalizing public and private properties

Senator Babangida Hussaini (APC Jigawa North West) has expressed concern that the nationwide protests, which began on August 1, 2024, over hunger have been taken over by looters and vandals.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Senator Hussaini condemned those who have turned the protests into opportunities for looting and vandalizing public and private properties in Jigawa State, calling such actions undemocratic.

The federal lawmaker noted that he was personally affected by the violent protests but remains committed to providing quality and responsive representation to the people of Jigawa North West through development-driven legislation.

“As one of the victims of the wanton destruction of property and looting in Jigawa State, I consider what happened as a manifestation of the unfortunate circumstances in which we find ourselves as a nation at this historic moment,” Hussaini said.

He emphasized that the negative consequences of the demonstrations do not reflect the issues raised by the protest organizers. Instead, they reveal the intentions of mischief-makers and enemies of the state who seek to destabilize the country for their selfish interests.

“I wish to assure my constituents that I am not angry at what has happened to me personally. I will not be deterred or distracted from my legislative service compact with the people of Jigawa North West Senatorial District,” he stated.

Senator Hussaini reaffirmed his commitment to serving his people and pursuing effective legislation that will positively impact his Senatorial District and Nigeria. He pledged to continue working under the legislative agenda of the 10th National Assembly, headed by Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
