The Lagos State Government has launched a clean-up operation targeting the Ojodu-Berger median, which has been marred by open defecation.

The move, announced on Tuesday, came with a stern warning from the authorities against the unhygienic practice.

In a video shared on X by the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, ministry officials were seen clearing the median, which runs along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“Lagos State commences clean-up of Ojodu-Berger median, warns against defecating on the road,” Wahab captioned the video.

The median has long been an eyesore, frequently defaced by faeces from individuals who misuse the space. This has forced pedestrians crossing the expressway to endure unpleasant odours.

The stretch from Berger in Lagos State to Kara, Warewa, and Mowe in Ogun State’s Obafemi Owode Local Government Area has been particularly affected by the problem, prompting residents to express concerns about the severe health risks posed by the foul-smelling areas.
