  • Officers from the Guri Divisional Police Headquarters quickly responded to the scene

A 40-year-old woman, Fatsuma Bagobiri, from Garin Mallam village in Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa State, reportedly set herself on fire.

The tragic incident, confirmed by Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, was reported on Thursday morning. Officers from the Guri Divisional Police Headquarters quickly responded to the scene.

The woman’s charred remains were taken to the hospital and later released to her family for burial.

Preliminary investigations indicate that she had been struggling with depression since her divorce a few months earlier.

Reacting to the incident, the Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, encouraged citizens to place their trust in Almighty Allah, seek prayers for blessings, and consult elders when facing challenging situations.

This tragedy underscores the critical need for addressing mental health challenges and seeking support during times of crisis.
