Abia forms committee to foster peace between farmers and herders

The Abia State government has inaugurated a committee aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders in the region.

Governor Alex Otti, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, inaugurated the committee in Umuahia. The group is tasked with identifying and addressing the root causes of conflicts between farmers and herders while promoting strategies for conflict prevention, mediation, and resolution.

Governor Otti emphasized that the committee’s work aligns with his administration’s goal of ensuring peace for all residents and businesses in the state. The committee is also expected to provide policy recommendations for long-term conflict resolution.

The committee, led by Professor Kalu, includes representatives from the Nigerian Army’s 13 Brigade, the Nigeria Police, traditional leaders from the Hausa community, and other key stakeholders.
