Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a police officer and a local vigilante officer in Sokoto State.

The security officers were killed in the early hours of Monday after they were ambushed by the armed non-state actors.

The state police spokesman, ASP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the incident.

He disclosed that the bandits ambushed the officers at their checkpoint on Sokoto – Bodinga road.

“They ambushed them at the checkpoint at Milgoma junction along Sokoto – Bodinga road and shot them at close range.

“One policeman, Inspector Eze, was killed while another local vigilante also died in the process,” he added

Meanwhile, the spokesman also confirmed the killing of armed bandits along the Sokoto – Isa road.

He further explained that in the shootout, which happened on Sunday evening, one AK 49 was retrieved from the bandits in the process.

In August, bandits killed four soldiers and set two military operational vehicles ablaze in the Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The police command said it was not aware of the kidnapping of 150 people in the Gobir Emirate.

A monarch in the state, the District Head of Gatawa in Sabon Birni Local Government, Isa Bawa, recently died in captivity.
