  • Buba said the army intercepted and arrested three persons carting away 19 seed planter machines and one motorcycle, belonging to the Yobe government, on August 27.

A total of 31 militants linked to JAS and ISWAP, two factions of the Boko Haram terrorist organization, were killed by Nigerian troops in Borno and Yobe states.

According to a statement released on Friday by Edward Buba, the defense media operations director, the army announced the successful operation.

The operation, which took place between August 28 and September 3, spanned multiple local government areas in Borno and Yobe states.

A intense battle led to the elimination of 31 militants, the capture of 7 suspects, and the liberation of 26 hostages.

The military also confiscated a large quantity of weapons, including firearms, ammunition, and explosives.

Additionally, troops arrested 24 suspected collaborators and informants of the extremist groups in various locations.

A substantial amount of ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles, and other items were recovered from the suspects.

Three individuals were arrested while attempting to steal government property, including agricultural equipment and a motorcycle, according to the statement.

The army also dismantled the strongholds of two prominent terrorist commanders in Katsina and Kaduna states.

In a separate operation in Delta state, the military destroyed illegal oil refining sites and recovered stolen petroleum products.

Troops seized over 725,000 liters of stolen crude oil and 475,000 liters of illegally refined diesel.

The military also discovered and destroyed numerous hidden pits, boats, and storage tanks used for illegal activities.

Other recovered items include cooking equipment, speedboats, vehicles, motorcycles, and generator sets.

The military successfully disrupted crude oil theft activities in Rivers state through air interdiction.

The defense spokesperson emphasized the military’s commitment to enhancing its strategies to counter the threats posed by extremist groups.
