The Ogun State Government has sealed five companies for breaching environmental regulations.

The affected businesses include Nixim Paper Limited and Long Xiang Aluminum, both located along the Sagamu section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Others are New Shidai Manufacturing Limited in Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, and two unregistered firms operating illegally in Ogere.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Farook Akintunde, Chairman of the Ogun State Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, said the companies were shut down following complaints from local communities about untreated wastewater being discharged into the environment.

Akintunde noted that despite being issued a Stop Work Order by the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), the companies continued their harmful practices. “The state had no choice but to close them down to protect public health,” he added.

Dr Oluwadare Kehinde, Special Adviser to the Governor on OGEPA, stressed that the companies must now adhere to wastewater regulations to prevent further environmental damage. He warned that OGEPA would not compromise on enforcing environmental standards as outlined in the state’s Green Book, which governs such practices.

The two unregistered firms must now complete the proper registration process and meet all operational requirements before being allowed to resume activities in the state.
