  • The proposed changes aim to deter those aiding terrorism, emphasizing the need for tougher laws to address Katsina’s pressing security challenges

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has directed the immediate amendment of Katsina State’s Penal Code Law to impose stricter penalties on informants and sponsors of terrorism-related activities. The announcement was made during a two-day capacity-building workshop organized by the state Ministry of Justice for stakeholders in the criminal justice system.

The governor highlighted the pressing security challenges in Katsina State, underscoring the need for tougher laws to deter those aiding and abetting terrorism effectively. He instructed the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to make the necessary revisions to the penal code, stressing that the state must adapt its legal framework to confront these threats.

Governor Radda emphasized the critical role of the criminal justice system in maintaining social order and protecting individual rights. He reiterated his administration’s dedication to improving the skills of key stakeholders to ensure efficient service delivery and uphold justice for the benefit of the state and the nation.

The proposed amendments aim to deliver harsher punishments for those who provide support to terrorists, addressing the growing security issues in the region. Governor Radda urged participants at the workshop to engage actively in discussions and contribute to developing more effective criminal justice policies in Katsina State.
