  • The IGP has therefore directed tactical squads and intelligence contingents to remain in the state to continue to fortify security measures until further notice.

Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general of police (IGP), has mourned the death of five police officers who lost their lives in a road accident while returning from Edo’s governorship election duties.

On Tuesday, Abdullahi Kiyawa, spokesperson of the Kano police command, confirmed the death of five officers in a road accident at Karfi town in Kura LGA of the state.

Kigawa said 11 police officers sustained injuries in a crash that occurred at Karfi village, adding that it happened while they were returning to Kano from an official assignment.

In a statement issued by Muyiwa Adejobi, the force spokesperson, on Wednesday, the IGP commiserated with the Kano police command and families of the deceased.

“The IGP prays for the repose of their souls.”

Speaking further, the police boss lauded the professionalism of the operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and sister agencies for maintaining order during the Edo gubernatorial election.

Muyiwa said the IGP directed tactical teams and intelligence units to stay in the state and enhance security measures pending further directives.

He added that those arrested for other criminal offences will be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.
