Two die as flood ravages Ibadan

A devastating flood that wreaked havoc in some part of Ibadan, Oyo State capital, has claimed two lives. .

Some parts of Oluyole and Ibadan South West local government areas were ravged by the floods.

The incident which happened on Wednesday destroyed property worth millions of naira.

NEMA South West Zonal Coordinator Olanrewaju Kadiri, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to newsmen.

He said the flash flood was caused by torrential rainfall in the ancient city.

According to him, NEMA and other humanitarian and emergency agency had carried out an assess the impact of the floods on the affected communities.

declared: “Following the heavy downpour that led to a flash flood in Ibadan South-West and Oluyole local government areas of Oyo State, which occurred on 24th September 2024, the NEMA South West Zonal Office, in collaboration with Oyo SEMA and Nigeria Red Cross Society, carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the affected communities.

“The flood disaster affected residential buildings, shops and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, and many persons were also displaced. Unfortunately, two deaths were recorded while two persons are still missing.”
