The Sokoto State government has praised the Nigerian military for its ongoing operations to combat insecurity and banditry in the state.

Speaking in Sokoto, the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor, Col Ahmed Usman (rtd), highlighted the joint efforts of the federal government, the state administration, and various security agencies in restoring peace to the region.

“You reported the marching order given to the Ministers of Defence and Security Chiefs to relocate to Sokoto and ensure normalcy returns in our banditry-infested communities,” Usman said.

He emphasised the state government’s commitment to fighting banditry and criminal activities, pointing to recent initiatives aimed at bolstering local security.

“Just two weeks ago, hundreds of motorcycles and patrol vehicles were distributed to local government areas for the use of our newly established local security guards. This is in addition to the support provided to conventional security agencies such as the police, army, and Civil Defence Corps,” he stated.

According to Usman, a total of 70 new patrol vehicles, including Toyota Buffalo and Hilux models, have been deployed to enhance security operations across the state.

He also noted that the state government conducts weekly security reviews to assess the situation but clarified that only the President, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, can issue directives to the military.

“We are grateful for the federal government’s continued support in this fight against insecurity,” he added.
