Kano State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Yusuf, has called on residents to support the ongoing polio immunisation campaign, stressing that the vaccine is safe and crucial for protecting children against diseases.

Dr. Yusuf made the appeal during a supervisory visit to the Kunchi and Tsanyawa local government areas on Monday. He urged parents and guardians to vaccinate their children to build a strong immune system capable of fighting diseases such as diphtheria and measles.

Governor Abba Yusuf had launched the 2024 Polio OBR3 Campaign in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area on September 28, 2024.

Highlighting the importance of community participation, the commissioner lamented that non-compliance with immunisation efforts endangers public health and can facilitate the spread of preventable diseases.

“I urge the people of Kano to allow their eligible children to receive the vaccines. Failure to do so could lead to the transmission of these diseases within their communities and beyond,” he said in a statement issued by the ministry’s Information Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi.

The commissioner’s appeal comes as health officials work to ensure the success of the campaign and eliminate vaccine-preventable diseases in the state.
