  • Igbafen managed to flee late on Sunday night

The Zonal Coordinator for the Benin Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Monday Lewis Igbafen, has escaped from his captors less than 24 hours after being abducted.

Professor Igbafen, a lecturer at Ambrose Alli University (AAU) in Ekpoma, Edo State, was reportedly seized by armed men around 10 pm on Saturday, 28 September, as he arrived home.

Blindfolded and taken to a forest in Esan South East Local Government Area, Igbafen managed to flee late on Sunday night.

Confirming the incident, Moses Yamu, spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, said, “The Command is aware of the situation. We are actively pursuing the suspects to ensure they are brought to justice.”
