  • Due to recent floods, the Borno State Government scaled down Independence Day celebrations, emphasizing solidarity and support for affected families
  • Governor Zulum reassured citizens of ongoing rehabilitation efforts and urged unity in prayer for recovery from the devastating flood disaster

The Borno State Government has decided to scale down its Independence Day celebration this year due to the recent flood disaster that severely impacted Maiduguri Metropolis and surrounding Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, announced the decision in a statement on Monday, emphasizing the importance of collective reflection and solidarity during this difficult period.

The flood caused significant damage, affecting hundreds of families and destroying vital infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, roads, and bridges. Governor Babagana Umara Zulum expressed deep sympathy for those affected and called on citizens to pray for the state and the nation.

“While we celebrate our nation’s Independence Day, we must focus on supporting and solidarity with those affected by the September 10 flood disaster. Let us take this time to pray for recovery and strength, not only for Borno State but for all of Nigeria,” Governor Zulum said.

He reassured the people that the government is redirecting resources toward rehabilitating damaged infrastructure and aiding affected families.
