  • In August, Matawalle visited some north-western states as part of efforts to rid the region of insecurity.

Bello Matawalle, defence minister, said his return to Sokoto state signals the end of banditry in the northwest.

Matawalle relocated to Sokoto on President Bola Tinubu’s orders to combat terrorism, as disclosed by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, on Tuesday.

The Defence Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ending insecurity, emphasizing the need for bipartisan support for the President’s initiatives.

“As directed by Mr. President, I am back to Sokoto state to assure the people of this great region of our commitment to achieving all necessary yardsticks in the fight against insecurity,” Matawalle said.

“We will never abandon you, and we will triumph over bandits and their sponsors who terrorize our people.”

Matawalle stressed collaboration with regional stakeholders to achieve goals, while the federal government boosts soldiers’ and security agencies’ morale.

The minister expressed confidence in the northwest’s ongoing military operation, predicting victories that will bring stability.

“I am optimistic that our gallant troops will continue to record successes through Operation ‘Fansan Yamma’ as we intensify our fight against these criminals,” he said.

Matawalle vowed to relentlessly pursue bandits and their supporters, ensuring citizens’ lives and properties are secured.
