- He suggested that certain individuals may be colluding with Boko Haram by sharing sensitive information with the group
Former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Mohammed Ndume, stated that the Nigerian military is not adequately equipped to eliminate Boko Haram or combat banditry effectively.
Speaking at his residence in Maiduguri after a condolence visit to communities in Gwoza Local Government Area recently attacked by terrorists, Ndume dismissed rumors that his convoy had been ambushed by Boko Haram insurgents.
“On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, we were on our way to condole with families of those killed in Ngoshe before proceeding to Kirawa when we received a distress call that Cameroonian soldiers and motorists had been ambushed along the Pulka-Kirawa road,” he said.
Ndume also clarified that the ambush was not aimed at his convoy, but rather targeted a Cameroonian businessman and an unidentified woman who were killed in the attack.
The Senator expressed concern over the persistent insecurity and suggested that certain individuals may be colluding with Boko Haram by sharing sensitive information with the group. Despite the military’s efforts, he emphasized that they need better equipment, training, and motivation to end the insurgency.
