Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has suspended his Special Adviser on Salary and Pensions, Alhaji Bashir Ado, following a premature announcement regarding a N70,000 minimum wage increase for state workers.

The suspension came after media outlets circulated a statement claiming the governor had approved the wage hike, raising concerns within the government. Bala Ibrahim, Secretary to the State Government, explained that the suspension was necessary due to the dissemination of misleading information.

“The committee led by the Head of the State Civil Service, which was tasked with advising on an appropriate minimum wage, is yet to complete its work or submit a report. The premature statement is both embarrassing and inaccurate,” Ibrahim said.

A committee chaired by Attorney-General Bello Abdulkadir has been formed to investigate the source, content, and motive behind the statement. The committee has two weeks to deliver its findings, and the suspension will remain in place until the investigation concludes.

Other committee members include the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad; and Permanent Secretary of Establishment and Service Matters, Muhammad Yahaya Jabo. The Permanent Secretary, REPA, Abba Mustapha Yola, will serve as the committee’s secretary.
