  • The dismissed officers are Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Samuel and Sergeant Oni Philip.
  • They were charged to court on 16th October, 2024 by the Kwara State Police Command

The Kwara police command has terminated the services of three officers allegedly implicated in the fatal shooting of a Kwara polytechnic student.

Quayum Abdulyekeen Ishola, an Electrical and Electronics Engineering student, succumbed to injuries on September 5 at UITH after being shot on September 4.

Ishola’s death resulted from severe blood loss due to a ruptured vein.

Upon learning of the incident, Kwara polytechnic students staged a protest, marching to the state police headquarters to demand a thorough inquiry.

The students alleged that Ishola was shot by police personnel at a checkpoint along Panat-ShopRite Road in Ilorin.

On September 9, police force PRO Olumuyiwa Adejobi identified the involved officers as Abiodun Kayode, James Emmanuel, and Oni Philip.

Adejobi stated that the officers were detained pending investigation at Abuja’s force criminal investigations department.

DISMISSAL

In a Friday statement, Kwara police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi announced the officers’ dismissal and remand in prison custody.

“The Kwara State Police Command informs the public that dismissed officers Abiodun Kayode, James Emmanuel, and Oni Philip have been charged to court on 16th October, 2024.”

“They face charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide in connection with Quayum Abdulyekeen Ishola’s death.”

“The trio has been remanded in prison custody pending further court proceedings.”
