It was gathered that the policemen were shot while trying to protect the expatriate worker, who was said to be the target of the suspected kidnappers.

A local privy to the development attributed the incident partly to the withdrawal of vigilante groups from the roads prior to the recent governorship election in Edo State.

He said the vigilante members who mostly from their areas of operation have been aiding the efforts of the police because of their familiarity with the terrains across the communities in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident, adding that efforts had begun to apprehend the suspects.

He said: “Investigation into the incident is ongoing alongside efforts in collaboration with the military to apprehend the suspects is in progress.”
