Bauchi: 20-year-old woman murder father-in-law over witchcraft

In Bauchi State, a 20-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly masterminding the murder of her father-in-law.

The suspect, Rakiya Ya’u, was said to have killed the deceased for practicing witchcraft which she said the deceased used to kill her son last year.

The Bauchi State Police Command, who have since arrested Rakiya Ya’u, discovered the body of the victim in a bush between Wuro Dangogo and Sarma village of Misau Local Government Area.

The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad, confirmed the development while briefing newsmen on Friday at the Police Headquarters on Yandoka Road.

Muhammad disclosed that the victim, identified as Damina Lamba, was found lifeless with signs of a violent head injury.

According to him, operatives of the Misau Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the divisional police officer, responded swiftly, transporting the body to General Hospital Misau where medical professionals confirmed that Mr. Lamba had succumbed to his injuries.

Acting promptly, the police launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the heinous crime.

Three individuals were apprehended in connection with the incident on October 30, 2024.

The suspects, all residents of Wuro Dangogo in Sarma Ward, includes Abdu Lamba, 20, Ruwa Aliyu, 22, and a female, Rakiya Ya’u, 20.

The CP revealed that during interrogation, both Abdu Lamba and Ruwa Aliyu confessed their involvement, revealing that they were hired by Rakiya Ya’u to commit the murder.

According to their statements, Rakiya believed her father-in-law practiced witchcraft, and allegedly causef the death of her son the previous year.

The accusation led her to seek revenge.

Two sticks reportedly used as weapons in the crime, were recovered from the scene while the suspects remain in police custody pending further investigations
