Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritise improving the welfare of Nigerians as the country faces severe economic challenges.

Speaking at the 2024 Women in Management, Business, and Public Service (WIMBIZ) conference, Osinbajo emphasised the urgent need for social welfare programs and accessible healthcare, citing the rising costs of essentials such as food, transportation, and housing.

“The cost of living is overwhelming Nigerians’ hope for survival,” Osinbajo remarked, pointing to growing food insecurity, particularly affecting children, and urging for stronger support systems to meet basic needs.

He also addressed the country’s literacy challenges, particularly in northern Nigeria, where over 67% of women are illiterate. Osinbajo warned that development would be difficult if half the population remained socially and economically disempowered due to illiteracy.
