The Ekiti State Government has approved N61.18 million for the production of 12,000 reflective jackets and permits for commercial motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle operators in a bid to address rising insecurity and standardize operations.

This move follows a bill sent to the House of Assembly to regulate the activities of riders, amid growing concerns over criminal acts linked to some operators. The motorcycle association revealed that 23 of its members had been murdered in three months by unknown assailants.

Several killings, reportedly carried out by gunmen on motorcycles, have occurred across the state, including the murder of a Point of Sale (POS) agent and a middle-aged man in Ado Ekiti.

Commissioner for Information and Value Orientation, Taiwo Olatunbosun, stated that the reflective jackets and permits will help law enforcement track operators and ensure only authorized riders operate in the state, aiming to curb insecurity.
