The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has urged businesses to adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, stressing the importance of accurate branding and proper product handling.

Speaking at the 2024 African Retail Congress in Lagos, NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by Northwest Zone Director Nantin Dadi, highlighted the risks of non-compliance, including financial losses and penalties.

Dadi emphasised the need for businesses dealing in regulated products—such as foods, medicines, and cosmetics—to understand local and international rules governing manufacturing, storage, and distribution.

“Failure to comply can result in your operations being shut down, causing significant financial losses,” he warned. He also advised businesses to conduct regulatory mapping when expanding into new markets and to avoid misleading product claims.
