Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has handed over 31 operational vehicles to security agencies in a bid to bolster security efforts across the state.

Presenting the vehicles to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in Asaba, Oborevwori said the donation would enhance the newly rebranded Operation Delta Sweep, a joint security task force aimed at combating crime.

“Our administration is committed to ensuring peace and security through initiatives like Operation Delta Sweep, formerly known as Delta Hawk. This rebranding signals our renewed focus on tackling insecurity,” the governor stated.

The donated fleet includes 23 pickups and eight Sienna wagons, complementing four previously supplied vehicles, bringing the total to 66. Oborevwori expressed confidence that the vehicles would improve patrol capabilities, particularly during the Ember Months.

The task force, established in 2020, comprises personnel from the Army, Police, Navy, Air Force, DSS, and Civil Defence Corps. It has recorded successes in curbing illegal oil bunkering, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other crimes.

Oborevwori emphasised the importance of security in attracting investments and improving citizens’ quality of life, urging agencies to collaborate and share intelligence for maximum impact.
