  • The minister emphasized that timely payment of compensation was critical to maintaining the project’s pace

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved ₦1.1 billion as compensation for residents affected by the ongoing construction of the Kuje road corridor, also known as FCT Highway 105.

Wike made the announcement on Tuesday during an inspection of the project and the ongoing Court of Appeal building.

“After reviewing the valuation reports, I decided to see the structures in question myself,” Wike said. “I’m pleased with the assessment and will immediately approve the funds to avoid delays. The total estimate for compensation stands at about ₦1.1 billion, which will be disbursed to affected property owners, ensuring the contractor has no excuse for project delays.”

The minister emphasized that timely payment of compensation was critical to maintaining the project’s pace.

In a separate remark, Wike reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, referencing the recently approved ₦70,000 minimum wage.

“This is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda to enhance workers’ welfare,” he stated. “We have adopted the increase and approved the payment of arrears as agreed with labour.”
