Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has started disbursing N394.55 million as bursary allowances for the 2022-2023 academic session to 10,000 Indigenous students across Nigeria.

Speaking at the flag-off event at Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic (IMAP) in Lafia, Governor Sule, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Aliyu Uban-Doma, stated that the initiative aims to reduce the financial challenges faced by students and their parents due to current economic conditions.

He highlighted that over 8,000 students had benefited from a similar bursary exercise for the 2020-2021 session.

“A total of N394,559,694.41 has been approved for disbursement to more than 10,000 students in various institutions nationwide. This effort reflects our administration’s commitment to easing financial burdens and supporting students in their academic pursuits,” the governor said.

He also noted that the bursary disbursement is being conducted via an e-payment system to ensure transparency and prevent fraud.

Governor Sule reiterated his administration’s dedication to improving education in Nasarawa State, emphasizing that quality education is key to societal development.

Sa’adatu Yahya, Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Scholarship Board, praised the governor for maintaining regular bursary payments, stating, “This gesture will significantly support students and help mitigate their financial struggles.”

Hussein Abubakar-Eya, President of the Nasarawa State Students Association (NASSA), expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanking the governor for prioritizing education and providing consistent support to students.
