The Sokoto State Government has unveiled an e-ticketing system for its mass transit vehicles, marking a shift towards a cashless transportation framework aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu announced the development during a demonstration of how passengers can obtain e-tickets seamlessly.

“This system is good and will promote a cashless system, ensuring all transportation fares go directly into the government coffers,” Aliyu said, adding that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance transparency across the state.

The governor highlighted that the e-ticketing system would ensure value for money spent on the state’s fleet of 126 mass transit vehicles, which cater to interstate, intracity, and inter-local government services. He expressed optimism that the move would significantly curb mismanagement of public funds.

“This development will enable effective supervision of government vehicles and ensure their roadworthiness,” Aliyu noted, while pledging his administration’s full support for the initiative.

The programme, when fully operational, is expected to create job opportunities and boost the state’s revenue. Aliyu also urged the consulting firm overseeing the project to refine the e-ticketing acquisition process for smoother implementation.
