A reckless driver who allegedly disobeyed traffic lights and killed a traffic officer in Oyo State, Nigeria, is to face prosecution.

Kehinde Fabunmi, a Level Four officer of the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), died on Saturday after being hit by the driver of a Black 4matic Benz with number plate LSD 862 JS.

According to OYRTMA Chairman, Adekoya Adesagba, the driver attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by officers at the University of Ibadan area.

Adesagba condemned the killing, stating that Fabunmi died while performing his lawful duties. He emphasized that anyone who assaults or disrespects traffic officers will face the full wrath of the law.

The suspect has been arraigned at the Magistrate Court, Iyaganku, and remains in police custody. The case has been adjourned until Thursday.
