The Imo state command of the Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has apprehended two notorious car thieves in the state.

The State Commandant, Mary Mbanugo, disclosed this while parading the suspects in Owerri on Wednesday.

Mbanugo revealed that Anayo Obekwe, 51, from Ahiazu Mbaise and Kenneth Alamonye, 53, from Ehime Mbano council areas, were arrested for allegedly stealing a navy blue Toyota Corolla car at gunpoint.

According to her, the stolen car was recovered at Umuodu Mbieri, Mbaitoli LGA of the state, after being snatched in Umuahia, Abia capital.

Obekwe claimed to be a mechanic fixing the car for Alamonye, unaware it was stolen, while Alamonye confessed to the crime.

“The arrests and recovery of the stolen vehicle were made possible through the command’s surveillance and new security strategies,” Mbanugo said.

“We cracked down on these car-snatching syndicates through our intelligence team.”

“We’re fighting crime and criminality, clamping down on their activities, especially during this yuletide.”

Mbanugo assured Imo people of adequate security arrangements for the festivities, urging them to return home without fear.
