  • The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents through sustained operations in identified black-spots

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has designated 17 areas in Abuja as criminal black-spots following a series of strategic raids aimed at tackling crime and safeguarding public infrastructure.

The black-spots include Apo-Dutse Panteka, the Diplomatic Zone, New PDP Secretariat, Kabusa Panteka, Ajakaita (Tungan-Maje), Abuja-Kaduna Road, Jabi Panteka, and Apo-Waru Panteka. Others are Area 1 (Monkey Village), Durumi Village, Gwarimpa, Angwan Tivi, Mpape (Mashafa and Shishinpe villages), Durumi III (Burukutu Garden), Mabushi (Gishiri Village), Kubwa (Pipeline and NEPA Road), and Maitama (under the Transcorp Bridge).

FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh announced the designation on Tuesday, describing the raids as part of the command’s “unwavering efforts to combat criminal activities.”

“These proactive operations are aimed at preventing crime and protecting public infrastructure from theft and vandalism, such as manhole covers, streetlights, and power cables,” Adeh said.

The operations also led to the seizure of 10 trucks loaded with vandalised metals, 26 stolen manhole covers, 20 streetlight poles, and substantial quantities of armoured cables. Additionally, officers recovered 11 firearms, reducing the circulation of illegal weapons.

Drug-related crimes were also targeted, with the confiscation of significant amounts of suspected Indian hemp and other hard drugs.
