Police arrest suspected bandit kingpin in Yobe, recover arms

  • The police spokesman reported that enraged local youths confronted the attackers, overpowering three and forcing three others to flee injured.
  • Victims and bodies were rushed to Fika’s General Hospital for treatment and post-mortem examinations, respectively.

The Yobe police command has announced the arrest of a suspected bandit leader in Ngalda, Fika LGA in the state.

According to Dungus Abdulkarim, police spokesperson in Yobe, a homemade pistol and three cartridges were seized during the arrest.

Abdulkarim stated that the kingpin’s capture followed a brutal robbery at Ngalda Market, which left seven dead and 11 injured.

“On January 20, 2025, at approximately 2100hrs, a group of six armed robbers attacked three shops at Ngalda Market,” the police spokesperson said.

“The incident resulted in seven fatalities and eleven injuries. The robbers made off with approximately N16,500,000.”

Locals thwarted the attack, subduing three robbers while three escaped injured; victims received treatment, and corpses underwent autopsies at Fika’s General Hospital.

Garba Ahmed, Yobe’s police commissioner, ordered an immediate probe into the incident and urged residents to remain calm.

The spokesperson added that Ahmed directed personnel to apprehend fleeing gang members and appealed to the public for credible information.
