  • The hospital’s Head of Public Relations, Dr Segun Orisajo, confirmed the incident on Tuesday

A senior staff member of the audit department at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Oluwaseun Adeniji, has died after reportedly jumping into a well in the Obantoko area of Abeokuta on Sunday evening.

Adeniji is said to have taken the tragic step shortly after dinner. While the exact reasons for his actions remain unclear, a source close to the situation revealed that he had been battling mental health challenges and had previously undergone treatment.

The hospital’s Head of Public Relations, Dr Segun Orisajo, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, describing the loss as both shocking and painful for the hospital community.

“The sudden death of Mr Adeniji Oluwaseun under a questionable circumstance was a painful loss to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta,” Orisajo said. “He was a dedicated, loyal, and hardworking staff member. There were no obvious signs that we were going to lose him so soon, as he was at work almost the entire last week.”

The incident has left many in shock, highlighting the importance of addressing mental health issues within the workplace and beyond.
